Same here re general text. We take tremendous pride in our talent for execution. Our starting point is to learn firsthand why you fell in love with your yacht in the first place. This is followed by delivering an informed and honest appraisal of the market, that includes answering the crucial questions – how quickly can you expect to sell, and at what price?

01

The ultimate personal expression

Undeniably the clearest and most direct route to getting exactly what you want. Building a yacht is a highly detailed and collaborative process. It requires careful planning, expert advice[1]  and numerous considerations to ensure the final vessel meets your vision, lifestyle and technical requirements.

The starting point is understanding your vision. This is an expensive undertaking, and no doubt, there will have been a host of factors that have led you to this point. We want to hear all about it, giving us the opportunity to provide critical insight and truly impartial guidance as to the best path.

02

Key Considerations

How do you intend to use your yacht? Private cruising in particular areas? Enabled for charter? Long-range exploration? Determining the intentions has significant bearing on the right design. Likewise, size and volume considerations will dictate available space and crew requirements, amongst other factors, whilst also having regulatory implications. You will likely have a clear sense of the style you wish to achieve. We work with you to propose and engage the naval architect and designers who are best placed to deliver your home at sea. Above all, establishing a clear and all-inclusive budget, together with realistic timelines, should serve as a precursor to any next steps

03

Timeline

Timeframes are largely driven by shipyard slot availability and the level of customisation required. A fully custom yacht can be a three to five year process, whilst semi-custom yachts are typically delivered in one to two years. An off the shelf design can often be delivered with a shorter lead time.

04

Custom Concept Development

Having engaged the appropriate team of designers and naval architects, your vision can start to take shape. At this stage, conceptual designs and general arrangement plans are set out to visualise the layout and flow of spaces. An iterative process that takes an enormous host of factors into account, from general design aesthetic, through to functional concerns and overall utility

05

Shipyard Selection

Choosing the right builder requires an expert and impartial view and understanding of each yard’s advantages and strengths and how these translate to your specific project. Reputation, portfolio, build quality, longevity, ability to meet deadlines and budgets, resale value, all come into play.

We enjoy established relationships with the entire spectrum of ship builders worldwide, are delighted to provide in-depth evaluations, before negotiating detailed, rigid contracts that outline performance and payment milestones, in addition to build warranties.

06

Design Phase

The collective expertise of Yachtsman, the shipyard, and the design team are all employed here to turn sketches and ideas into tangible reality. It also presents the opportunity to focus on the finer details. This includes selecting materials, furnishing and finishes for each space, ensuring the design aligns with the intended use and maintenance requirements.

07

Engineering and Technical Planning

Further bridging the gap between concept and reality, this is a crucial aspect in guaranteeing that the design is functional, efficient and compliant. An enormous amount of ground is covered here.

The hull design is tested and validated, construction materials selected, and adjustments made for optimisation. Detailed studies are undertaken to measure stability and performance in all conditions. The propulsion system is chosen, whether diesel, hybrid, or alternative fuel, with engine placement, shaft alignment and propeller design specified for optimal efficiency and maximum reduction in vibration and noise. The yacht’s critical systems, including electrical, water management, HVAC, stabilisation, navigation and communication are all integrated into the design. Technical interior plans are drawn up to integrate acoustic insulation and vibration dampening, air ducts, wiring and storage, whilst making refinements to optimise for space, functionality and comfort. Tender and toy storage is ascertained with a focus on swift and simple deployment. And we’ve only covered half of it.

Suffice to say, nothing is left to chance.

08

Construction

On finalised and approved plans, construction begins. From initial hull construction through to superstructure construction, structural work and eventual painting, there are multiple stages of fabrication, assembly, and outfitting that require precise coordination between the shipyard, subcontractors and suppliers.

09

Project Management

With you every step of the way. We ensure timelines and budgets are adhered to, quality standards are met, and seamless coordination amongst all stakeholders. Our commercial and technical expertise is employed to its fullest to make this one of the most enjoyable experiences life can afford

10

Sea Trials and Testing

Overseen by our team, sea trials provide the opportunity to fully test the yacht’s performance, safety systems and functionality, allowing for any defects or adjustments to be addressed before delivery

11

Delivery and Commissioning

Celebration time. The yacht is registered and flagged, with crew members assuming their roles and trained on yacht specific systems and onboard protocols. The moment for setting sail has arrived

12

Post Build Support

Far beyond warranty support and regular servicing and maintenance, our operational management and charter management teams are on hand to cover every aspect of yacht ownership for the years to come. Please visit our Management pages for further information.

REFIT

Icon

Every yacht requires refit periods throughout its life cycle. The scale and scope can vary widely, from necessary warranty work, essential maintenance, special surveys, system overhauls, through to complete redesigns or smaller aesthetic upgrades.

Planning is of the utmost importance here. Setting out a clear scope of works required, engaging shipyards well in advance, and coordinating with trusted vendors and suppliers is crucial to ensuring works are completed on time and within budget.

We take great pride in having worked with some of the top shipyards, technicians, contractors, naval architects, and interior designers in the industry. Some of these have particularly high profiles and are justifiably celebrated, others fly lower under the radar but may be particularly well placed to deliver to your specifications.

Having an experienced and trusted counterparty to provide clear guidance on pricing is useful. Even better is having a project manager with an intricate understanding of value.

Let us know what you want to achieve and allow us to set out the best path to delivery.
